Hrones, Budd win Super Senior Pairs
John Hrones Jr. of Needham MA and Richard Budd of Portland ME topped the field in the Super Senior Pairs, edging out Patricia Dovell of Gainesville FL and Markland Jones of Phoenix AZ by less than half of a matchpoint.
Hrones and Budd qualified in 10th place for the final two sessions. A strong first final score of 61.11% moved them into first place, 1.48 matchpoints ahead of Dovell and Jones (on an 8 top). They were able to hang on with a 54.86% final score to secure the win.

It’s the second national championship for both Budd, who won the Baze Senior Knockout Teams in 2000, and Hrones, who won the Truscott/USPC Senior Swiss in 2015. Budd also has four second-place finishes.
Dovell and Jones are both Platinum Life Masters.
