First-Timers Win 10K Swiss

The team of young men from Seoul, South Korea, Kim Daehong, Kang Seongseok, Ik Lee and Seungjin Roh – all of whom are playing in their first ACBL tournament – won the 0–10,000 Swiss Teams. Qualifying in second place for yesterday’s final with a carryover of 23.34, the team lost only two matches and led for the entire second session. They finished with a total score of 131.65 VPs.

In second place was the California team captained by Qiang Zhang who partnered with his 10-year-old son, Brian Zhang, both of Dublin CA, and Weishu Wu and Brian Gilbert, both of Irvine CA. They had a carryover of 21.41 VPs and finished with a final score of 115.48.

The Zhang and Daehong teams met in the second round. Zhang won the match by 3 IMPs to take the lead, but a big 35-IMP win for the Daehong team in the fifth round put them ahead and they never looked back.

Finishing third was Cheryl Haines of Princeville HI, Tim Benoit of Kansas City MO, Yan Song of Lincolnshire IL and Wirt Gilliam of Santee CA with a score of 110.73.
