Considered an expert in “collective leadership” – people doing as a group what they cannot do individually. My pragmatic approach has given me opportunities to serve as a nonprofit board member and strategist in the areas of leadership, strategic change, facilitation and organizational development. I have 35 years of experience developing programs for people at all levels in education, politics, business and the community. I am the co-author of Implementing and Sustaining Your Strategic Plan (2011), Leadership for the Common Good Fieldbook: Tools for Working in a Shared-Power World (2003), Facilitation Resources (1999) and contributed to Mapping Your Retirement (2007).

For over 25 years I worked at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School where I was Director of Professional Development programs as well as Director of the Reflective Leadership Center and its midcareer International Fellowship Programs. When I retired from the University of Minnesota, I co-founded Aurora Consulting where I continued to help others hone their leadership skills.

Started playing 14 years ago. My wife and I played in our first major tournament with less than 5 points during the KC Regional in December. They treated us so nice, we have been coming back ever since. We are currently both Bronze Life Masters and working towards Silver.

I am an Audrey Grant instructor. I am a Director and my wife and I currently manage the Sunday afternoon game at the Wichita Duplicate Bridge Center.

Spent 36 years in the aircraft industry. Was a Master Machinist and then served last years as a Quality Engineer on the Military side, traveling to New Zealand and Australia to ensure our planes and facilities met all quality standards. Treasurer and president of the Regina Duplicate Bridge Club, president of the South Saskatchewan Unit 573, tournament coordinator for District 18, represented Zone V of the CBF and served as president of the CBF. I currently do supplies for Unit 573 and I am the webmaster for District 18.

My first career was as a Special Needs teacher and consultant. Simultaneously, my husband and I spent some years providing therapeutic foster care for children at risk. My present career is bridge teaching.

Hobbies and interests

Bridge is my primary hobby. I also love to read, play piano, garden, and cook.

Family

I have been married to a fellow I met at a bridge tournament for more years than I can believe: the wonderful Peter Cooper. We have one daughter, Katie, who knows quite a lot of bridge lingo, but has always refused to try the game.

I joined the ACBL on September 9, 2009. I didn’t play in a duplicate game until 2010. My proudest moment was earning Life Master in 2013.

Volunteer service

I have been Tournament Chair for four sectionals and served as the Membership Chair, Vice President and President of Unit 499. I have served as a District Representative on the District 21 Board. I was the Prize Chair for the 2016 Reno NABC.

Career/professional activities

Spent 8+ years working for County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County in accounting, human resources and grants management. Spent 22+ years working for Central Contra Costa Sanitary District in grants management and community relations.

Bridge experience

Played in clubs and a few tournaments from 1980 to 1985 after learning in college in the early 60’s. Got back to club/tournament play in early part of 2,000s. Favorite memory-winning our district flight B GNT in a 56 final board match and winning by 1 imp.

Volunteer service

Bridge-District Board since 2011; District Treasurer since 2013; District President 2014 & 2015; along with my wife Nance and help from our local unit, created and managed the Palm Springs NLM Regional in 2015 and 2016, managed the Palm Springs Regional in 2015 and 2016. Non Bridge-volunteer pilot for LIGA, Doctors of Mercy, flying doctors, nurses, other volunteers and medical supplies into Mexican township to provide basic medical care to thousands of non insured Mexicans; WBC (Los Angeles childrens fundraising group), Vail Jazz Festival (supports youth musical achievements).

Career-founder of an office furniture dealership in Southern California; CPA; CFO for a regional public company; Contract CFO, CEO for a variety of companies.

Played duplicate bridge for the first time in the 1980’s with my then recently widowed father at the Thornton bridge club in suburban Chicago.

Volunteer service

Long-time Unit 557 board member and sectional tournament manager/co-manager. Unit president.District board member, executive committee member, tournament committee member, and tech advisor.
A long-time advocate for 1) improving bridge technology and 2) increasing cost-effectiveness of ACBL technology expenditures. Advised national ACBL board on technology matters starting in 2008. One of 30 co-signers of the November 2014 technology letter to the national board calling for best practices, et al.

Technology and technology management at major internet/technology companies. Executive and strategy work at a mergers and acquisitions company; COO at a tech startup.Board of Directors of a $60M tech company where I sat on the Executive Hiring/Review committee during a leadership change.

Bridge experience

I started playing bridge in college, as was normal in the 60s. My first big win was Advanced Senior Master at the 1967 Montreal NABC. I am proud to be a Gold Life Master with some top NABC+ finishes.

Volunteer service

Serving in every capacity in Unit 242 (Nassau Suffolk Bridge Association) and District 24 for 40 years to present, honorary member of the Greater New York Bridge Association, serving on ACBL Board of Directors from 1996 to present, ACBL president in 2003, WBF Executive Council from 2004 to present, current WBF Executive Vice President and Chair of Information Technology Committee. As Technology Chair, I led the project to redo the WBF website in 2012.

I have taught bridge in after-school programs.

Career/professional activities

Research “rocket” scientist specializing in structural mechanics and material science in the Aerospace industry. Worked for Northrop Grumman on Long Island, NY, for 32 years. During that time also taught graduate school, lectured internationally, consulted, authored nearly 100 refereed publications, was granted two patents, and spent a year at NASA as a visiting scholar and a summer at Cambridge University, England, as a visiting professor. Honored by NASA.

When not playing bridge, or visiting with their son and grandson, playing golf at our Long Island, NY, and West Palm Beach, FL, homes.

Bridge experience

I played bridge with my Mother when I was young, I started playing bridge again online in 2004 and became a Life Master in 2007, I went to my first club and tournament in 2004 and have been a regular player since.

Volunteer service

I have been ACBL District 25 President, Unit 108 President, Webmaster, & headed many committees along the way. My wife and I volunteer at the Emmaus Homeless shelter whenever needed.

ABTA Member and I teach bridge locally. I own a small bridge club and serve as a club director.

I work in Information Technology, I own a small company, we are Microsoft Cloud Solution Specialists, Veeam CSP, Website development and have our own private cloud and Azure.
