Grand Life Master Peter Rank of Palm Springs CA died at his home Feb. 11. The three-time NABC champion was 78. Rank served as League Counsel for the ACBL from 2001 to 2016.

Rank was one of the top players from the West Coast during the Sixties and Seventies – he was the Top 500 masterpoint winner in 1965 – but retired from full-time play in 1978. He won hundreds of regional events and was a former president of District 21.

Rank developed bridge musicals as entertainment for many NABCs, and wrote, scored and produced four productions that were based on Broadway musicals: My Fair Little Old Lady, The Lesser Vice (Guys and Dolls), Partnership! Partnership! (Kiss Me Kate), There is Nothing Like a Game and Annie Bid Your Slam.

An attorney, Rank was also the former California State Health Director and the former director of the California Employment Department. For almost three decades, Rank produced fund raising shows featuring major celebrities such as Bob Hope, Betty Ford, Steve Allen, Tommy Tune and Gene Kelly.
