ACBL Headquarters Donates to Mid-South Food Bank

The American Contract Bridge League’s (ACBL) chief officer, Robert Hartman, visited the Mid-South Food Bank on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 to make ACBL’s annual donation.

For three years ACBL has been collecting donations of food from its employees to give to the food bank. This year ACBL upped the ante and encouraged more participation from their employees by holding events at their headquarters in Horn Lake, Miss. — including their first ever chili cook-off — to benefit the food bank.

One hundred percent of the ACBL’s employees donated either food or money with some donating both. One chili cook-off winner even donated his prize money. In total, ACBL donated more than $1,200 and 300 lbs of food.

CEO Robert Hartman said, “The ACBL wants to support our local community. Although we are an organization focused on play, we understand there are those who struggle to meet the most basic needs including children and seniors. We feel it’s important to help however we can. No one should suffer from hunger, and that’s why we’re giving these donations today. Mid-South Food Bank’s President and CEO Estella Greer does a tremendous job running an organization that serves the community needs and we are proud to support them.”

Founded in 1981, the Mid-South Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks. A founding member of the Safety Net Collaborative, their mission is “to fight hunger through the efficient collection and distribution of wholesome food, and through education and advocacy” with the vision of a hunger-free Mid-South.
