ACBL Nears Fundraising Goal

On Friday, June 21, hundreds of bridge players across North America will arrive early at their local bridge clubs in support of The Longest Day. These players have challenged themselves to push their limits by participating in back-to-back bridge activities from sunrise to sunset – all while raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease.

The ACBL is the Alzheimer Association’s inaugural partner in The Longest Day®. This year’s theme is “Do something you love” on June 21— the longest day of the year — in honor of those fighting Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers.

From Fort Lauderdale FL to Homer AK, Amarillo TX to Halifax NS and everywhere in between, bridge players have risen to the challenge of The Longest Day. To date, 154 ACBL-affiliated fundraising teams have registered with the Alzheimer’s Association and raised more than $114,000 – approximately 40% of ACBL’s $287,000 goal.

Of the 625 teams registered with the Alzheimer’s Association to participate in The Longest Day, the top ACBL fundraising teams are: Bridge Academy of North Dallas with $21,560 raised, Sagamore Bridge Club (Syossett NY) with $21,505, Bridge Center of Austin with $14,565 and Essex Bridge Center (Livingston NJ) with $14,474. Other ACBL teams in the top 25 include The Mixed Nuts (Skaneateles NY) Alpharetta DBC, Big Canoe Bridge Club (Big Canoe GA), North Virginia Bridge Association and Unit 503 (East Bay CA).

ACBL’s chief executive Robert Hartman said, “I’ve always known that our membership was an altruistic group, but the support shown for The Longest Day goes above and beyond. I want to extend my personal thanks to everyone participating for helping to make our partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association an early success. I have no doubt we will reach our fundraising and awareness goals on June 21.”
