Marketing Director on Board at the ACBL
Alexandra “Alex” Turner, a Memphian who has worked in marketing and public relations for 17 years, has joined the staff of the ACBL as director of marketing and communications.
“We are delighted to have a person of Alex’s talent and experience in this key role as the ACBL moves forward,” said Robert Hartman, the company’s chief executive. “We expect our new marketing director to take a major role in the strategic plan to boost membership and promote the game of bridge.”
Turner said that, during interviews for the job, she was impressed by the dedication of the ACBL staff and their love for the card game played by millions around the world.
“I’m excited about the challenge of helping more people find out how great bridge can be as a leisure-time activity and as a competitive endeavor,” she said. “The ACBL has made great strides in attracting more young people to the game. Adding to that effort will be one of my priorities.”
Turner graduated from the Hutchison School in Memphis and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Missouri, following that in 2000 with a master’s degree in business administration from Webster University in the St. Louis area.
Turner’s professional career started before she earned the MBA. She worked for the Gilllette Co. in St. Louis as marketing sales manager from 1996 to 2000. In 2001, she joined the staff of the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau as director of public relations and media relations.
She established her own firm, Lux Media Source, in 2005, and in 2008 took a job as senior account supervisor in the Memphis office of Crosby Volmer Communications, a Washington DC-based company. From 2010 to 2013, she was vice president of planning and outreach for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis.
