Ruffing on the River
by Peggy Kaplan
Thursday, the first full day of bridge in Memphis began with a bang. Heralding the 75th anniversary of the ACBL, new ACBL winners were crowned. Jordan Cohen and Barry Senesky just eked out enough matchpoints to qualify for Day Two of the Flight A North American Pairs. It was kismet. Day Two they had their Big Game, beating out second place Bill & Rozanne Pollack by less than a board.
In other events, Bridgewinners’ Greg Humphreys and headed-for-China-Junior Adam Kaplan won the International Stratified Open with an almost 74% game. B.J. Becker and Sidney J. Lazard Sportsmanship winner Michael Kamil topped 70% to lead the Educational Foundation Stratified Open.
Bridge stars warmed up their games and directors got the lay of the land. Be they young or old, from near or far, bridge players connected with friends and socialized.
Ten more days of thrilling events, seminars, lectures, tours, Vugraph and much more are ahead!
