Tobias Stone (1919-2012)
Tobias Stone, a member of the ACBL Bridge Hall of Fame and co-creator of the famous Roth-Stone bidding system, died Wednesday in Las Vegas after a brief illness. He was 92. Stone was originally from New York, where he made his name in the company of top players such as Harold Harkavy, George Rapee and Alvin Roth, with whom he formed a longtime partnership. Stone won 14 North American championships and in 1956 was ACBL’s top masterpoint winner. He retired to Nevada in 1986. A full obituary will appear in the April issue of the Bridge Bulletin.
