ACBL Board of Directors Elects New President
Keeping with the ACBL tradition, the annual Passing of the Gavel was held at the Palm Springs Regional on December 17. Current ACBL President, Craig Robinson, ceremoniously passed the gavel to newly elected board president, Sharon Anderson.
Anderson was elected by the Board of Directors as the 2012 President at the fall NABC in Seattle on the eve of completing her first term as District 14’s board representative. Looking forward to the next year, she says her focus will be varied but will include helping to facilitate an effective management team at the ACBL, listening to Members and honoring the thousands of ACBL Volunteers who she considers collectively to be “our largest asset.”
After graduating from St. Olaf College where she studied math and sociology, Anderson ran an inner city program for the Minneapolis council of the Girl Scouts of America for five years. After a brief “retirement,” Anderson spent 25 years running a leadership center and working at the Hubert Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Throughout her working life, she has held more than 100 board assignments, many of them for non-profit organizations.
During her time as President, Anderson says she hopes to get all the forces pulling in the same direction. One of her key goals is to build a leadership team between the CEO and the Board of Directors and will always follow her motto: “All of us are smarter than one of us.”
