U.S. Teams Battle each other in World Championships

At the halfway point in Bermuda Bowl semifinal play, USA 2 holds a 51-IMP lead over USA 1, while in the d’Orsi Senior Bowl, USA 2 is up 52 IMPs over USA 1.

Bermuda Bowl teams USA 1 (Martin Fleisher, Mike Kamil, Robert Levin, Steve Weinstein, Chip Martel and Lew Stansby and npc Jan Martel) and USA 2 (Kevin Bathurst, Daniel Zagorin, Joe Grue, Justin Lall, Joel Wooldridge, John Hurd and npc Curtis Cheek) were locked in a tight match until, midway through the third and final 16-board segment for the day, USA 2 pounded out a 48–0 run.

In the other Bermuda Bowl semifinal match, Italy holds the slimmest of leads – 1 IMP – over the Netherlands.

In the d’Orsi Senior Bowl all-American semifinal, USA 1 (Lew Finkel, Arnold Fisher, Bobby Wolff, Dan Morse, Richard Schwartz, Fred Hamilton and npc Henry Bethe) trails USA 2 (Larry Kozlove, Gaylor Kasle, Peter Boyd, Steve Robinson, Neil Chambers, John Schermer and npc Donna Compton) by a score of 106 to 54.

Poland and France are knotted at 103 in the other d’Orsi Senior Bowl semifinal bracket.

The semifinal matches in the Venice Cup feature Indonesia vs. England and France vs. the Netherlands.
