Bridge to the Future
by Peggy Kaplan
Concerned about future bridge generations? Then you should have been at the Junior Reception on Saturday, July 23rd. A good crowd of juniors of all ages showed up – and more kept on coming! They were treated to a Mexican feast of goodies. As they munched on their snacks, they shared stories of conquest and defeat.
“Former junior” stars were in attendance, as were several members of the ACBL Board of Directors, including President Craig Robinson. Also, Atlanta’s Patty Tucker, tireless teacher and promoter of all things junior bridge, was there with other youth supporters to mingle and encourage these young future stars.
One group of teensy kids arrived a bit late. I inquired if they had any masterpoints; all vigorously shook their heads “Yes!” One proudly held up six fingers: he had a full six masterpoints!
Daniel Wolkowitz received an appointment as Junior Ambassador, for his outstanding performance in ethics, leadership and sportsmanship. We are fortunate to have such an exceptional competitor setting an example for the rest of our youth; thank you, Daniel!
All of us who love this game should give a round of applause to all those within the ACBL and all the volunteers and teachers everywhere who are encouraging and shaping these young players. Bridge is alive, vibrant and growing in the next generation!
