Fun For A Good Cause
The Bridge Haven of Saint Louis MO is sponsoring a special game to raise money for charity. Fifty pros have signed up — amateurs must bid for the chance to play with the pros. Bidders fill out a form on the “bidding wall,” and the dollar amount they bid will be donated.
New York Times bridge columnist Phillip Alder is one of the pros.
“We expect about 25 tables,” says Chuck Starovasni, Bridge Haven club owner. “The pros were generous to donate their time. Some of the pros, in fact, have promised a donation match for the amount bid on them.”
The money raised will be donated to BackStoppers, an organization who says their mission is to “provide financial assistance to families of police officers and fire fighters who have given their lives for the safety of our local communities.” Their web site is www.backstoppers.org.
Bidding will be finished at midnight Aug. 16, and the game will be played Sunday, Aug. 29. Starovasni says he expects to raise more than $3000.
