Let’s Make it Ourselves
By Ken Hoy
Our Knoxville (TN) Bridge Center likes to use a timer so players know when a round is about to be called. The timer quit working, and we found that a new one would be expensive. No problem, we made our own.
Club member Vince Carcello donated his old computer and monitor. Sheila Barron donated speakers. Bob Pardue wrote an easy-to-use program to emulate the timer’s functions, and the “new” timer was quickly up and running. The monitor displays the remaining time for each round, beeps at the two-minute warning and beeps again at the end of the round.
