Welcome to the Biggest Little City in the World!
by Peggy Kaplan
Reaching the “Biggest Little City in the World” isn’t an easy proposition. Between weather and flight schedules, some of us spent 11 hours plus to reach the Spring NABC. Yet, is it worth the toil and trouble to arrive in Reno? You bet it is!
A schedule jam packed with events for everyone from the elite to newcomers? Check. Lots of spots to eat, from inexpensive to fine dining? Yep. Stunning mountain views surrounding the Grand Sierra Hotel, plus hiking trails to keep fit for bridge? Of course. Hospitality and entertainment plus great opportunities for socializing? Definitely!
Reno began with the North American Pairs. Big congratulations to winners Doug Doub and Frank Merblum, just a hair ahead of Nik Demirev and David Yang. Another big “thank you” to District 13 Director Suzi Subeck’s husband, Stan. Some exceptionally evil stomach flu hit more than a few bridge players this past week. When it hit me for the first session of the NAP, Stan admirably stepped up to the plate.
If you’re not here in Reno enjoying all it has to offer, it is not too late to hop a plane, bus or train and join us!
