Another Coup for the Rabbi

Rabbi Leonard Helman is well known for his intrepid style of play at the bridge table, and also for his enthusiastic support of the game.

At the Navajo Trail Regional in Albuquerque during January, Helman's influence with state legislators was demonstrated with a special honor for him and bridge.

Helman, who lives in Santa Fe, the state capital, is chaplain to the New Mexico State Senate. Prior to the regional, Helman convinced the state Senate and state House to proclaim Jan. 22 as New Mexico Bridge Day. The Senate proclamation noted that Rabbi Helman "is a famed international bridge player" and that he was previously honored with the dedication of the Leonard A. Helman Bridge Center in Santa Fe.

The proclamations were read in the respective houses of the legislature on Jan. 22, and an announcement of the publicity for bridge was made at the regional.
