Morse, Lynch Teams Punch Tickets to Senior Bowl
The team captained by Dan Morse stormed out to a huge lead after two sets and went on to defeat the Richard Schwartz squad in the U.S. Senior Bridge Championships. With the win, Morse earned a berth as USA1 in the Senior Bowl at the World Bridge Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil, starting Aug. 29.
Also qualifying to play in the Senior Bowl is the Lynch team, who defeated Schwartz in the playoff to determine USA2.
The USSBC was played in Las Vegas under the auspices of the United States Bridge Federation.
Morse is playing with Bobby Wolff, John Solodar, Paul Swanson, Arnie Fisher and Fred Hamilton.
Lynch’s team is Mike Passell, David Berkowitz, Mark Lair, John Sutherlin and Dan Gerstman.
Morse took the first two sets 59-17 and 43-3 and were never threatened on the way to a 221-165 victory in the 90-board match.
The 60-board playoff was tight all the way. Lynch led by 1 IMP at the halfway point, and the match was tied with 15 deals to play. Lynch won the final set 19-16 to earn a spot in the world championships. More details are available at www.usbf.org.
