Sullivan Recipient of ACBL 2009 Jane Johnson Award

American Contract Bridge League employee, Wendy Sullivan, is the 2009 recipient of the ACBL’s Jane Johnson Award. Sullivan, an ACBL employee of twenty years, was presented this award at ACBL headquarters during an employee appreciation breakfast and service award ceremony on Tuesday, June 9th.

Wendy, executive assistant to Meeting Services Director, Jeff Johnston and better known as the “Ask Me Girl” to those who attend the North American Bridge Championships, oversees ACBL’s Patron Member program, serves as the hotel liaison for all the NABC’s, and works with the set-up crew preparing for each of the NABC’s. On top of her outstanding work at the ACBL, Wendy is also a devoted wife and mother to her husband John and their two teenage sons, Stuart and Matthew.

The Jane Johnson Award, established in 2001 in memory of Club and Membership Manager, Jane Johnson, is a dual employee recognition award presented each year to one ACBL headquarters staff employee and one ACBL tournament director. The award is given to an ACBL employee who exceeds over and above his /her assigned job duties and who exemplifies extraordinary customer service. Recipients of the award are chosen based upon employee nominations and the Jane Johnson Employee Recognition Award Selection committee, which is comprised of four fellow employee staff members.

Wendy received multiple nominations for the Jane Johnson Award this year. The following are excerpts from nominations submitted on Wendy’s behalf:

“Wendy is a very dedicated ACBL employee. She is always willing to lend a hand whether it is moving boxes, setting up tables, or whatever the tournament service staff needs assistance with.” “She helps “lost” players, answers hundreds of questions in her role as “Ask Me Girl” at the NABC’s. “She stepped up to the plate revealing assets that were like buried treasurers just waiting to be discovered. The ACBL has reaped the benefits of those treasures both in-house and at the NABCs.”

The ACBL is proud to include Wendy as the eight year recipient of the Jane Johnson Recognition Award for 2009. The tournament director recipient of this year’s award will be announced in July, at the NABC in Washington DC.
