USBC Knockouts Continue

Teams captained by Bruce Rogoff, George Jacobs, Gary Cohler, Steve Robinson and Rose Meltzer were leading with 30 boards to play in their "round of 16" matches in the United States Bridge Championship.

The winning team in the complicated tournament will earn a berth in the Bermuda Bowl in Sao Paulo, Brazil, starting Aug. 29. A second team will be chosen in a playoff between the losing finalist and the winner of a match between the losing semifinalists. The teams will be USA1 and USA2.

The United States Bridge Championship is being played in White Plains NY under the auspices of the United States Bridge Federation.

In the current matches, Rogoff leads John Diamond 69-49, Jacobs leads Melih Ozdil 67-51, Cohler leads Martin Fleisher 63-59, Robinson leads Aubrey Strul 71-51 and Meltzer is ahead of Arch McKellar 82-53.

The round of eight starts on Monday afternoon.
