Dinkin In -- Mancuso, Glasson Vie for Second Venice Cup Slot
The team captained by Sam Dinkin (non-playing) earned a berth in the Venice Cup as USA 1, defeating the team led by Renee Mancuso 162-154 in the United States Women's Bridge Championship in Sacramento CA. The tournament is organized by the United States Bridge Federation.
Mancusco still has a chance to play for the world championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and was leading the Joann Glasson team 74-71 through two segments of their playoff to determine USA 2. Glasson defeated Sylvia Moss 207-160 in the match between losing semifinalists and thus earned a second chance to qualify to play in Sao Paulo.
In the final, Mancuso (Peggy Sutherlin, Shawn Quinn, Pam Wittes, Connie Goldberg and JoAnn Sprung) led Dinkin (Lynn Baker, Karen McCallum, Kerrie Sanborn, Irina Levitina, Lynn Deas and Beth Palmer) by 2 IMPs with 16 deals to play but lost the final set 34-24.
Glasson's teammates are Lisa Berkowitz, Sue Weinstein, Cheri Bjerkan, Rozanne Pollack and Stasha Cohen. Moss played with Migry Zur Campanile, Sue Picus, Linda Perlman, Linda Lewis and Margie Gwozdzinsky.
