Mancuso, Glasson Leading as USWBC Nears Conclusion

With 32 deals left to play today, teams captained by Renee Mancuso and Joann Glasson were in the lead in their respective matches in the United States Women's Bridge Championship in Sacramento CA.

At stake are two berths in the Venice Cup, scheduled for Sao Paulo, Brazil, starting in late August. The tournament is organized by the United States Bridge Federation.

After 64 boards of the USWBC final, Mancuso (Peggy Sutherlin, Shawn Quinn, Pam Wittes, Connie Goldberg and JoAnn Sprung) held a 107--102 lead over the Sam Dinkin (non-playing captain) squad ( Lynn Baker, Karen McCallum, Kerrie Sanborn, Irina Levitina, Lynn Deas and Beth Palmer). The winner of that match will be USA 1 in the Venice Cup.

The other match is between the losing semifinalists, Joann Glasson and Sylvia Moss. The winner of that match will play the losing finalist for the right to compete in the Venice Cup as USA 2. That playoff will start tonight and conclude on Thursday.

Moss is playing with Migry Zur Campanile, Sue Picus, Linda Perlman, Linda Lewis, Margie Gwozdzinsky. Glasson's teammates are Lisa Berkowitz, Sue Weinstein, Cheri Bjerkan, Rozanne Pollack and Stasha Cohen.

After 64 boards, Glasson was ahead of Moss 157--89.
