1943 — 2009

Grant Baze, Grand Life Master, four-time world champion and a leading North America player, died of cancer Jan. 11 in San Diego. He was 65.

Baze was a three-time winner of the World Senior Teams, and he won the World Transnational Teams in 2005. He was the highest-ranked Senior player in World Bridge Federation rankings, acquiring the rank of WBF Senior Grand Master.

No. 6 on the all-time list of masterpoint winners with more than 41,000, Baze was a three-time winner of the Barry Crane Top 500 contest and was the first player ever to top 3000 masterpoints in a calendar year (1984).
