Richard G. Hewitt — 1927-2008
Richard G. Hewitt, former member of the ACBL Board of Directors and president of the ACBL Charity Foundation, died unexpectedly in New York City Aug. 2 of cardiac arrest. He was 81.
He was a practicing trusts and estates attorney.
Joan Gerard, who represents District 3 on the ACBL board, said Hewitt was part of the organizing group for Unit 188 (Westchester NY). He served as president of the unit and of District 3, which he represented on the ACBL board from 1975-1985. He was a member of the ACBL Goodwill Committee and the ACBL Laws Commission.
A successful tournament player, he was just short of Diamond Life Master status.
He leaves his wife, Genevieve; a brother, Don; a son, William; a daughter, Carolyn Spiegel; stepdaughters Elizabeth Gadon and Katherine Meyer, and five grandchildren.
