The character Peter Stanislavky in the 1933 movie "Grand Slam" indeed was based on Ely Culbertson, as 52 % of you chose in last week's Playful Poll. Runners up in the voting were Vanderbilt (23%), Goren (11%), Blackwood (7%) and Sims (4%). In the film starring Paul Lukas and Loretta Young, Stanislavsky invents a bidding system for couples: "If there are no rules, there is nothing to fight about. We believe that bridge is a family institution, that it should keep husbands and wives together not break them apart."
