Senior Trials in Round of Four
Teams captained by Jim Tritt, Reese Milner, Steve Robinson and John Onstott have reached the semifinal round of the Senior Team Trials, contestants vying for a chance to represent the U.S. in the Senior International Cup, part of the World Mind Sports Games in Beijing, China, starting Oct. 3.
The Senior trials, conducted by the United States Bridge Federation, are going on in Sturbridge MA. The tournament will conclude on Thursday.
The matchups in the semifinal round, which will be completed Wednesday, are Tritt versus Onstott and Milner versus Robinson.
Tritt, the original No. 9 seed, reached the semifinal round with an upset of the No. 2 seed, led by Rose Meltzer. Tritt jumped out to a 34-16 lead after one quarter, winning a tight match 119-110.
Other quarterfinal scores, by captain: Onstott defeated Richard DeMartino 103-87, Milner defeated Lou Ann O'Rourke 145-84 and Robinson defeated Carolyn Lynch 119-111.
