Strul-Jacobs, Nickell-Welland form USBC Semifinal Matchups

Teams captained by Aubrey Strul, George Jacobs, Nick Nickell and Roy Welland entered play on Tuesday in the semifinal round of the United States Bridge Championship. The winner will earn the right to represent the U.S. in the World Mind Sports Games in Beijing, China, starting Oct. 3.

In the quarterfinal round, Strul defeated Jiang Gu, who withdrew after 90 boards trailing 219-108.

Welland had it even easier, as the Harry Tudor team dropped out after only two sets, trailing 121-27.

Nickell and Jacobs had to go the full 120 boards, Nickell defeating Jim Mahaffey 327-244 while Jacobs knocked out Warren Spector 287-259.

The tournament is being played in Palm Beach Gardens FL.
