Fleisher, Robinson Squads Lead Open Trials Round-robins
Teams captained by Marty Fleisher and Steve Robinson were leading their respective divisions as round-robin play entered day two in the United States Bridge Championship, being contested in Palm Beach Gardens FL.
The 22 teams without byes are playing a round-robin in two 11-team divisions. The bottom three in each division will be eliminated after the first round-robin, and the 16 remaining teams will play a second round-robin, the top 11 teams from that heat moving to the round of 16.
After 56 boards, Fleisher had 105.62 victory points, ahead of second-place Jiang Gu, with 93.55 VPs, and Paul Lewis with 85.56.
In the other division, Robinson had amassed 100.73 VPs, putting them ahead of Venkatrao Koneru (90.39) and Russ Ekeblad (88.17).
Both round-robins will conclude on Friday.
The winning team earns the right to represent the U.S. in the World Mind Sports Games in Beijing, China, in October in the event previously known as the World Bridge Team Olympiad.
