Open Team Trials Under Way
The United States Bridge Championship began on Wednesday with a field of 25 teams, each hoping for the one big prize -- the right to play in the World Mind Sport Games in Beijing, China, starting Oct. 3.
Only one team will emerge with a berth in the world championship, formerly known as the World Team Olympiad.
The tournament started with round-robin play for 22 teams in two divisions of 11 teams each. Squads captained by Aubrey Strul, Nick Nickell and George Jacobs had byes to the round of eight.

The 120-board final will begin Thursday, June 5.
The USBC is being played at Palm Beach Gardens FL concurrent with the ACBL regional in that city.
