Moss Squad Earns Trip to Beijing
The team captained by Sylvia Moss came from behind in the final two sets of the United States Women’s Bridge Championship to earn the right to represent the U.S. at the World Mind Sport Games in Beijing, China, this fall.
The winners are Moss, Judi Radin, Mildred Breed, Marinesa Letizia, Tobi Sokolow and Janice Seamon-Molson.
They defeated the squad led by Lynn Baker. Her teammates were Karen McCallum, Kerri Sanborn, Irina Levitina, Lynn Deas and Beth Palmer.
In the 96-board final, the Baker team led 162–150 with 32 deals to play, but were outscored 74–11 over the last two sets. The final score was 224–173. The tournament was played in Raleigh NC concurrent with the regional tournament.
The Moss team will play in the event formerly known as the Women’s Team Olympiad during the World Bridge Games in Beijing, starting Oct. 3 and concluding Oct. 18.
The open trials begin May 27 in Palm Gardens FL, The Senior trials are set for June 16–19 in Sturbridge MA.
