Bridge Week in Canada

A lot is at stake in the Canadian Bridge Federation's Bridge Week tournament, now under way in Winnipeg MB. The winning teams in the Canadian National Teams Championship (CNTC) and the Canadian Women's Team Championship (CWTC) will be eligible to represent their country in international competition. The next major championship is scheduled for Shanghai, China, in the fall -- the Bermuda Bowl (open teams) and the Venice Cup (women's teams).

The round-robin phases of the CNTC and CWTC are well under way. With 16 of the 21 rounds in the CNTC, the squad captained by Paul Thurston was leading the qualifiers. Eight teams will advance to the knockout stage. In the CWTC, the Sylvia Caley team was leading after nine of 13 rounds. Four teams will advance.

The other events scheduled during Bridge Week include the Canadian Senior Teams Championship, the Canadian Open Pairs and the Canadian IMP Pairs Championship.
