Husband and Wife Win Vanderbilt
It hasn't happened since 1962, but a husband and wife have won the Vanderbilt Knockout Teams at the just-concluded 2007 Spring NABC in St. Louis.
Although not playing as partners, Christal Henner-Welland and her husband, Roy Welland, took the Vanderbilt trophy with an international squad. Welland played with Bjorn Fallenius, late of Sweden, while his wife played with Italian expert Antonio Sementa. Their teammates were Polish stars Adam Zmudzinski and Cezary Balicki. Henner-Welland is the first woman to win the prestigious championship since Edith Kemp did it in 1963.
