Historic Atlanta Tour

Atlanta began as a railroad stop in the wilderness. The surveyor would not accept land for his services. He said the place would never amount to anything. That was the beginning - the cornerstone of Atlanta!
We will explore Atlanta's famous Peachtree Street - from the suburbs to the city. Indians cut the first trails. Settlers drove their livestock down those trails. Then came the railroads, the war and two armies - one staggering and one victorious. As we follow that same Peachtree Street today, just sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of this high tech city of tomorrow.
From Civil War sites to Atlanta's first subdivision to old favorites like the Fox Theater and the Capitol, we will tell you the stories of how this tiny little railroad terminal grew to be an International City.
And lest you forget how far we have come, we will take you to Cyclorama so that you may experience for yourself a day in that long ago Civil War Battle of Atlanta, July 22, 1864.

Included in price:
Deluxe motor coach transportation
Admission to the Cyclorama
Narrations and services of a Lamplighter Tours guide
Note: a minimum of 30 tickets need to be sold no later than July 15, 2013 or the tour will be cancelled and refunds given.

Date: Thursday, August 1, 2013
Price: $48 per person
Time: Meet at 9 a.m., return by noon.

A Night at Stone Mountain

Your guide will meet you at your hotel this afternoon to depart for Georgia’s Stone Mountain Park. It is THE place to spend a warm summer night when you come to Atlanta.
First we will impress you with some facts on the largest exposed mass of granite in the world.
"The Rock" is 300 million years old, stands 825 feet high and covers 583 acres. It seems to grow every year as the earth erodes around it. A Confederate Memorial Carving on the face of the mountain covers 3 acres. We will see the mountain and more.
Enjoy a driving tour of part of the park’s 3,200 acres and visit the Quarrying Exhibit. During the Civil War, granite from the mountain was used for tombstones, later for paving streets and making curb stones.

Today, Stone Mountain granite has been used for construction projects throughout the world, including the locks of the Panama Canal, the U. S. Capitol Building, the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo and the University of Havana in Cuba.
Each person will have a twilight pass to enjoy. Choose from the tram ride to the top of the mountain, the train ride around the mountain, the 18 building Plantation complex, or one of several museums. Also, you will have a little time to browse in Crossroads, Stone Mountain’s new Old Town.
A buffet dinner is included this evening at Stone Mountain on the Memorial Hall terrace.
In the summertime, when the sun goes down, something magical happens at Stone Mountain. Folks from near and far gather on the green in front of the mountain. At dusk, the face of the mountain comes alive with the Stone Mountain Laser Show. This is a spectacular show of laser lights projected on the mountain’s north face, portraying dramatic stories, comical characters and graphic images, all choreographed to popular music. The Laser show Spectacular in surround-sound features the Liquid Flame Cannonball, shooting an array of fireballs into the sky during the show. Clap your hands, tap your feet and cheer for your favorite sports team...as long as it is a Georgia team! We will have reserved seating to be sure everyone has a good view.
