Remember the old saying "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar?" So emerged the "Gracious Behavior Award."

As Vice President of District 2, I am beginning to promote a reward system for good behavior at clubs. I am starting at our own club in North Bay, but I believe a similar program could be implemented at all clubs. Every club has a courteous, gracious player such as Art Atkin was. I suspect many clubs have similar programs in effect. Given the number of newcomers to the game, promotion of a positive program might be just the ticket. Each time a pair scores 70% or greater in any game, we take their picture holding an 8x10 sign depicting their winning percentage.These photos are printed and displayed in picture frames in our club and are also posted on our website.

Our most famous picture was printed in the February 2009 ACBL Bulletin showing two pairs - 1st place winners with a 77% and 2nd place with 71%.
