Two solid games on Wednesday gave Emily Harrell and Benedicte Cronier a lock on the winner’s spot in the Whitehead Women’s Pairs even before the last round of play.

They qualified second coming into the day.

The NABC win is the first for Harrell, from Shoal Creek AL. For Cronier, who hails from Paris, France, it is the sixth championship – her first in a pairs event.

Hansa Narasimhan of Los Altos Hills CA and Christina Madsen from Hellerup, Denmark moved from 20th after day one to finish second.

Madsen says this is this second time this year she has been bested by Cronier in a major tournament. “Next time I’m playing with you!” she vowed.

Closely behind in third were Linda Lewis from Las Vegas NV and Jean Barry from Livermore CA.
