The squad captained by Marusa Basa of London posted a tally of 35.19 in the final of the Freeman Mixed Board-a-Match Teams to win the four-session contest by just over half a board. In second with 34.68 was the team led by May Sakr of Bryn Mawr PA.

Paske of Hereford, England, Sara Bell of London, and Alexander Hydes, a Brit who lives in Zagreb, Croatia.

The Basa team scored 16.5 in the first final and 15 in the second. Their carryover was 3.69.

It was the first North American title for the quartet. Paske, Bell and Hydes said they had each previously played for their country “on England’s ‘B’ teams.”

Playing for the runners-up on Sakr’s team was Ivan Tsonchev and Vladimir Marashev of Bulgaria, Justyna Zmuda of Poland, Rose Meltzer of Chapel Hill NC and Nik Demirev of Arlington Heights IL.
